How Emthunzini Hat Company came about
Whilst holidaying on a sunny beach in Phuket Thailand, Gilly and Sandy Ord met up with
their long standing friends from Australia.
Victoria was wearing such a fantastic, attractive, colourful sunhat. Gilly was smitten and
instantly wanted one.
“Its crushable, washable and has a hidden drawstring so can be custom fitted to most
sizes. I bought it from the Australian Cancer Council,” enthused her friend.
Gilly, whose past experiences have taught her to recognize a great product when she sees
one, immediately made enquiries about bringing the hats onto the South African market,
especially as nothing appeared available in South Africa that compared to these fashion treasures
from Australia.
This was spurred on by the many compliments received from friends and family and so
within the year, Emthunzini Hat Company was launched.
