How Emthunzini Hats came about
Whilst holidaying on a sunny beach in Phuket Thailand, Gilly and Sandy Ord met up with their long standing friends from Australia. Victoria was wearing such a fantastic, attractive, colourful sun hat. Gilly was smitten and instantly wanted one. “It's crushable, washable and has a hidden drawstring so can be custom fitted to most head sizes. I bought it from the Australian Cancer Council,” enthused her friend.
Gilly, whose past experiences have taught her to recognise a great product when she sees one, immediately made enquiries about bringing the hats onto the South African market, especially as nothing appeared available in South Africa that compared to these fashion treasures from Australia.
This was spurred on by the many compliments received from friends and family and so within the year, Emthunzini Hats was launched.
Only a few years on, Emthunzini Hats has increased their range of men’s, women’s and children’s hats considerably and can be found in most corners of the country, and also parts of Southern Africa.
